OPENING 2025
Meet Agnes and Sherman.
Mom came to the states from Hong Kong for college, and dad was born and raised in San Francisco. Mom was boarding school and curry fish balls, dad was varsity football and Motown. Mix the two together and you get a uniquely American experience.
Growing up was always a mashup of cultures. From Chinese wedding banquets to Giants games, Sunday dim sum to House of Prime Rib, Kumon to little league, all of these things existed simultaneously and in harmony with each other. As I got older, I started to realize that this diversity of experience was foreign to many people but relatable to many more. So when it came time for me to open up my own spot, I wanted to try and distill those memories into an experience where I could invite others to connect. I named this restaurant after my parents because if all I want to do is tell my story, then that story is ultimately about them.
I’ve felt shiftless and antsy in all the places I’ve lived and worked, always having to prove my worth just to survive. So I’m happy to bring this dream to life here in Houston, a city that has welcomed me warmly since day one. I’ve been able to find a depth of community and culture here that I’ll never find the bottom of no matter how much I dig. I hope that our little restaurant will be able to add to the identity of this city, but more importantly, I hope that it can be a home for Houstonians in the same way Houston has become a home for me.
But what do I know anyway?
It’s just a diner.
