Are you a restaurant operator with a proven track record of building successful businesses and creating exceptional inclusive hospitality experiences? 

We’re seeking an experienced General Manager (GM) to lead a new upscale diner located in Houston Heights. In this early phase, you’ll have the unique opportunity to be a strategic partner with the co-owners to build an uniquely Houston restaurant. As the founding GM, you’ll play a vital role in executing the vision for the new concept and making our first impressions to the Heights community. You’ll collaborate closely with the co-owners and management team to drive the success of the restaurant’s operations, including daily functions, managing a high performing team, and exemplifying a best-in-class experience.

Agnes and Sherman is an upscale Modern Asian American Diner located in the Heights neighborhood of Houston, Texas. We strive to provide a nostalgic, whimsical, and inclusive dining experience for all. Led by Chef Nick Wong, the menu will feature  dishes that are not only creative and genre-defying, but also accessible and joyful. Through the lens of Asian American food, we hope to expand the definition of American culture.

General Manager Responsibilities:

Pre-Opening

  • Develop and drive a comprehensive pre-opening plan, including budgeting, inventory management, and marketing initiatives

  • Recruit, hire, and train all Front of House staff, ensuring they understand the restaurant's concept, policies, and procedures, and values

  • Partner with vendors and suppliers to establish strong relationships and secure favorable pricing for maintenance services, equipment, and beverage

  • Develop and implement compliant operational systems, including service standards and health department protocols

  • Conduct test runs and practice services to ensure a smooth and successful opening

Post-Opening

  • Have a gold standard vision for guest experience and take accountability for the team’s execution of that vision 

  • Foster a positive and productive work environment for all team members, including recruitment, training, and development

  • Oversee all day-to-day restaurant operations, including staff scheduling, inventory management, and other administrative duties

  • Execute against P&L (profit and loss) goals of the restaurant and support the management in budgeting, payroll, and other key financial inputs 

  • Roll up your sleeves and support staff on the floor in whatever capacity is needed when necessary 

Qualifications:

  • Excellent leadership skills with a track record of motivating, developing, and retaining a high performing team  

  • Spearheaded efficiency, improving P&L, and setting a high standard for guest satisfaction through qualitative and quantitative data 

  • Experience with beverage menu development and maintenance, including but not limited to: wine list curation, cocktail knowledge, bar operations, and inventory control

  • Expertise in restaurant and staff management practices and familiarity with technology platforms, i.e. POS, payroll, and scheduling 

  • Experience working in hospitality establishments that have a socially conscious direction 

Compensation:

We offer a competitive salary commensurate with experience. Total compensation for full-time employees includes a comprehensive benefits package (company-sponsored health insurance with dental and vision options, paid time off and parental leave, and staff meals before every service). 

Salary range starts at $75,000 and will be based on factors including, but not limited to, prior relevant experience and skills.
