Community Update - August

This update is coming to you after Houston slugged its way through Hurricane Beryl recovery. So many friends were without power, but we’re safe and thankful for the community around us. As a restaurant that aims to rep the city of Houston and witnessing the difficulties that restaurateurs experienced, we’re even more resolute about using our platform in the future to advocate for hospitality businesses and workers.

Highlights:

  • We’ve awarded our general contractor and demolition kicked off last week

  • We participated in the annual White Linen Night on 19th Street, a Houston midsummer event that has spread throughout the city to get the community out in support of small businesses. We sold beers as an excuse to introduce ourselves to folks from the neighborhood and ppl were very excited to learn about our neighborhood-centric concept

  • Our official website and Instagram are now live, with our first post reaching an audience of over 6,500! Help us spread the word by liking and re-sharing, for example, our job post for the opening General Manager

NBD/No Big Deal (aka things that are not great but we are handling like pros):

  • An existing drop ceiling in our space that is a part of our initial design fell apart after the demo crew removed an existing built-in shelf. We’ll be re-doing the drop ceiling in order to keep the same design

On deck:

  • We are doing our first official pop-up on 9/15 with a local, woman-run nonprofit called I’ll Have What She’s Having (shout out to one of our favorite movies, When Harry Met Sally) whose mission is to support food and beverage workers being able to access preventive and mental health care. Scallion waffles, a signature dish from the Agnes and Sherman menu, will be making their debut

Shout outs:

  • Charles Lee, Lisa’s high school prom date and our college friend, for helping us build our website

  • Henry Tsai for the awesome storefront illustration that you see under the Contact page

  • Cindy Qiu and Vivian Leba, PR lead and social media expert, for withstanding the intense heat and humidity to help us say hi during White Linen Night

Demo in progress and this is where that drop ceiling used to be
